Minnesota FoodShare’s March Campaign to Benefit the St. Peter Area Foodshelf
Monday, March 1 – Wednesday, March 31
We will be collecting food and monetary donations to benefit the St. Peter Area Foodshelf during the month of March.  The amount of money and food raised during the month of March determines how much additional money the St. Peter Area Foodshelf receives from Minnesota FoodShare to use throughout the year so it is a crucial fundraiser for our community.  Community members may donate at the following locations:

Local Movie “Farming Forward”
Thursday, March 11 – 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Treaty Site
Grab a friend and join us for the St. Peter premiere of the movie “Farming Forward” by local filmmaker and Gustavus professor Martin Lang and student Ethan Marxhausen. The movie focuses on sustainable, local farmers and their practices, as well as how they affect their communities in a positive way. A handful of local farmers will be available for conversation after the screening. This event is free and open to the public.

St. Peter Reads Author Visit
Tuesdsay, March 16
Erin Hart is a Minnesota native and the author of crime novels set mostly in Ireland, revolving around archaeology, forensics, history, traditional music, and folklore. Her first two books will be available to borrow at the co-op, as well as at several other businesses around town. In early March her third book in the series will be available to borrow as well. On Tuesday, March 16 Erin’s husband’s traditional Irish trio Chulrua will be doing a musical presentation at the Senior Center at 1:30 p.m. Erin will be at the Public Library for a book signing from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. An atmospheric reading by Erin with music and images, combined with a concert by Chulrua will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 7:00 p.m. These events are brought to you by the St. Peter Reads committee and Friends of the St. Peter Public library, and a grant from the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.

Groovin’ for Grub!
Saturday, March 20 – 9:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at Patrick’s on Third
The St. Peter Food Co-op and Patrick’s on Third have joined forces to bring you an evening of fabulous music and good vibes to benefit the St. Peter Area Foodshelf. Enjoy the funky grooves of the New Primitives (high-energy Rhythm & Blues, Ska, Reggae, Calypso, and World Dance Music) in the name of charity. All proceeds received at the door will be donated to the St. Peter Area Foodshelf (recommended donation at the door is $5.00).

St. Peter Reads Book Discussions
Thursday, March 25 – Noon and 6:30 p.m.
Join us at these events for intelligent conversations surrounding Erin Hart’s books. Bring your own brown bag lunch to the Public Library for the noon discussion. The 6:30 p.m. discussion will be held at the co-op.

Documentary Film Series
We have partnered with the Nicollet County Historical Society and St. Peter Community and Family Education to bring a documentary film series to the Treaty Site History Center.  This diverse group of films will be followed by audience discussion and conversations with special guests. We look forward to not only watching them, but talking and thinking about them as well. Please join us for one, a couple, or all eight. Admission is free.

Film looks at two major trade goods-timber and coffee-to understand how      certification works and whether it works. Can we globalize in ways that treat people fairly and respect the environment? Why should we try? How can consumers and retailers make choices that will make a difference?

Making Your Own Mixes 
Thursday, April 8 – 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Do you like the taste and quality of baking from scratch, but you can’t find the time?  Jan Glimsdal, Registered Dietitian, will teach you how easy it is to make your own mixes for pancakes, cookies, seasonings, hot cocoa, and rice side dishes.  You can reduce your food bill and the packaging waste at the same time.  These are easy to prepare, and you can make homemade in a hurry.  Sign up through St. Peter Community Education: 507-934-3048.

Managing Stress
Thursday, April 22 – 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
It may be impossible to avoid stress, but it can be managed.  Amy Kvidra, M.D., will explain what stress does to a body physically and provide ideas on how to battle it in a healthy manner when it strikes.  Holistic measures such as nutrition, supplements, and herbal remedies, as well as life style changes, will be discussed.  After this class, stress will never get the best of you again! Home Spa Party
Thursday, May 13 – 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Learn to Make Traditional Egg Rolls
Thursday, May 20 – 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Rob Thomas, member of the co-op management team, learned the fine art of traditional rolling from his host family in Thailand.  He will also teach alternative rolling methods and make amazing dipping sauces.  Learn both egg rolls and spring rolls in this hands-on class.  Come ready to fill the wraps and roll them yourself.  It’s easy to learn, and they taste fabulous.  You will never buy the frozen ones again!  Sign up through St. Peter Community Education: 507-934-3048.
